Conflict free diamonds are those that are ethically mined and sold having no connection to terror or opposition groups. In 2000, the Kimberley Process was established to control the export and import of rough diamonds to eliminate the trade in blood diamonds. Incoming diamonds are closely monitored from the time they are mined to the final sale. Each shipment of incoming diamonds is given a Kimberley Process Certificate that verifies the diamonds are conflict free. Today 99% of diamonds in the marketplace are conflict free.
